CassKai vs QuickBooks: the French-speaking and African alternative after QBO France shutdown

QuickBooks is an excellent Anglo-Saxon accounting product, but the QuickBooks Online France offer has been discontinued since late 2023. French-speaking entrepreneurs end up on the international version, in English, with no native PCG or SYSCOHADA. We built CassKai to be the natural alternative: French interface, French and OHADA taxation, built-in XOF/EUR support.

Overview

QuickBooks is one of the most widely used online accounting software in the world, published by Intuit. It is an excellent product, particularly well suited to Anglo-Saxon SMEs (US, UK, Canada, Australia). Its strengths: polished UX, deep automation, very wide third-party app ecosystem, numerous bank integrations.

But an important factual point for French speakers: QuickBooks Online France has been unavailable since 31 December 2023. Intuit stopped new subscriptions in early 2023 and fully shut down the France service at the end of 2023. French-speaking users who want to stay on QuickBooks must now subscribe to the international version (US or UK), which has several limitations for the French-African context:

CassKai is built specifically to fill this gap: French interface, French and OHADA taxation natively, PCG or SYSCOHADA chart of accounts depending on your company, native handling of XOF, XAF, DZD and EUR with the fixed XOF/EUR parity (655.957) built into the FX engine. For French-African entrepreneurs currently on QuickBooks for lack of a better local option, CassKai is the natural alternative.

Target Audience

QuickBooks Online (international, US/UK) remains an excellent choice if you are an English-speaking SME, or a French startup invoicing almost exclusively internationally in USD or GBP, with bookkeeping done by an accountant used to Anglo-Saxon standards. It is also a good choice if you already have a QuickBooks third-party app ecosystem you do not want to rebuild.

Migration Guide

Migrating from QuickBooks Online to CassKai is a classic export-import operation. Here are the steps:

  1. Export your QuickBooks data: from your QBO account (US or UK), export the general ledger, customer invoices, supplier bills, chart of accounts, contact list (customers and suppliers), bank transactions. QBO supports CSV/Excel exports.
  2. Choose the target chart of accounts: French PCG if you stay in France, SYSCOHADA if you operate in OHADA, or IFRS/SCF depending on your case.
  3. Import into CassKai: the import wizard accepts QBO files and proposes automatic mapping from English accounts to the target chart of accounts. You validate the mappings.
  4. Restate opening balances at the cut-off date: banks, receivables, payables, fixed assets, equity.
  5. Reconfigure VAT: switch from sales tax / UK VAT to French VAT or UEMOA VAT depending on your case.
  6. Reconnect your banks: import your bank statements (CSV, OFX, QIF, PDF with OCR) into CassKai for automated reconciliation. Open Banking aggregation via Bridge API is being integrated (expected 2026).
  7. Configure e-invoicing: France (PPF/Factur-X) if you bill B2B France, or UEMOA/Algeria e-invoicing if you operate in Francophone Africa.
  8. Keep QuickBooks archives for years closed under QBO, retained for the legal duration (10 years).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is QuickBooks Online France really shut down?

Yes. According to public communications from Intuit, QuickBooks Online France stopped accepting new subscriptions in early 2023, and the service was fully shut down on 31 December 2023. French-speaking users who want to stay on QuickBooks must now subscribe to the international version (US or UK), which is not designed for French taxation or French-speaking accounting standards.

I am on QuickBooks Online US/UK with activity in Cote d'Ivoire. What are my real issues?

The main issues are: (1) no SYSCOHADA chart of accounts — you probably keep your books in US GAAP/UK GAAP and must restate everything manually at close to produce SYSCOHADA statements; (2) no native DSF — your Ivorian accountant probably redoes the statements by hand; (3) UEMOA 18% VAT is not configured by default — you manage it as manual tax; (4) the interface is in English; (5) if you want FNE normalised invoicing, there is no native QuickBooks support. CassKai solves these 5 points from company creation.

How does CassKai handle the XOF/EUR parity?

The UEMOA CFA Franc (XOF) is pegged to the Euro with a fixed legal parity of 655.957 XOF per 1 EUR. CassKai has built this fixed parity directly into its FX engine: for any XOF↔EUR conversion, the rate is applied automatically, with no external rate service call. This completely removes translation differences between the two currencies (which are structurally zero by monetary law) and drastically simplifies France-OHADA consolidation. For other currencies (USD, GBP, CHF, etc.), CassKai uses live FX rates.

My accountant uses QuickBooks. Can I still switch to CassKai?

Yes. CassKai generates all the exports expected by a French certified accounting firm: FEC, trial balance, general ledger, centralised journals, sub-ledgers, full financial statements. For firms used to QuickBooks, adaptation is fast because export files are standard. You can also invite your accountant directly into CassKai with a read-only or review role.

Who publishes CassKai and what is its sustainability?

CassKai is published by Noutche Conseil SAS, a French company whose historical activity is financial advisory and management control for SMEs in France and West Africa. The CassKai brand is the result of years of field experience in French-African groups. Our commitment to French-speaking markets is structural, not opportunistic — the exact opposite of a global vendor sub-segment that can be shut down based on corporate arbitrage, as happened to QuickBooks Online France at the end of 2023.
